“the Iraq war is largely about oil” — Alan Greenspan

Sadly for Bush and Cheney, Greenspan decided to put prudence aside in his new book, The Age of Turbulence, and answer the most neuralgic issue of our times – why the United States invaded Iraq.

Greenspan writes:

“I am saddened that it is politically inconvenient to acknowledge what everyone knows: the Iraq war is largely about oil.”

Everyone knows? Would that it were so. But it’s hardly everyone. Sometimes I think it’s hardly anyone.

There are so many, still, who “can’t handle the truth,” and that is all too understandable. I have found it a wrenching experience to be forced to conclude that the America I love would deliberately launch what the Nuremburg Tribunal called the “supreme international crime” – a war of aggression – largely for oil. For those who are able to overcome the very common, instinctive denial, for those who can handle the truth, it really helps to turn off the Sunday football games early enough to catch up on what’s going on. — Source: Greenspan Misses Cheney’s Memo: Spills the Beans on Oil

60 yr old grandmother and Vietnam veteran, arrested for protesting the war, in Louisville

This is a fear inspiring story, all too easy to imagine.

Carol Trainer could hardly process what was happening. To her, a
60-year-old grandmother and Vietnam veteran, of all people. On Memorial
Day, of all times. Arrested for protesting the war…

“He comes up to me and says, ‘Drop your sign,'” Trainer recalls. “I
said, ‘Why?’ He said, ‘I told you to drop your sign.’ He grabbed it out
of my hand when I didn’t drop it. That kind of started me. I thought,
What’s going on here? I kept asking why and he wouldn’t tell me.” The
only explanation Trainer received, after her arrest, was that offended
patrons had complained that she was harassing them and ruining their
fun. She says that while dozens of people thanked her for the message,
she had been confronted by four patrons, including one veteran “who
said, ‘This is Memorial Day–we’re here to enjoy ourselves.’ I said,
‘When do the people in Iraq get to enjoy themselves?'” Crying
and struggling with the deputy, she tried appealing to Mayor Jerry
Abramson, who was watching the show nearby, but he “just stared and
glared at me and didn’t say a word.” The deputy and a Metro Police
officer dragged her off forcefully in handcuffs.

Carol… “thank you for wearing the sign”… more importantly, thank you for sharing the story of your arrest; helping people realize that our “freedom” is somewhat tongue-in-cheek.

911 +6 years – i’ve done nothing

Well… it’s been a day – just like any other day.  I wore black… biked to work… worked… biked home and walked in the park with Anita and Nova.  A beautiful day.  Nothing in my day to tie this date with six years ago… I was looking for it to come up.

Perhaps if I watched television more, or talked to strangers more…  perhaps if I got out of my daily life and tried to make a change in the world which reflected my beliefs (such as they are)…  perhaps if I didn’t live so comfortably I’d work to fix what seems obviously wrong with the world.

Unfortunately, that does seem to be what it comes down to.  I value my ability to provide for my family above most other things.  An argument could be made that activism which resulted in an improvement in the world would be a better service to one’s family… but I’m not that optimistic.  I believe change can happen – must happen – and if a critical mass of people lean in a direction, the country will follow… but I don’t know how much I can contribute…   cop-out.

Since I can not seem to improve the world beyond my normal daily routine… I can not proselytize that anyone else should.

Don’t worry, I’ve got punishment enough; knowing that the current American Government is corrupt and criminal, but not doing anything about it.  End in sight?  Probably not.

9/11, Six Years Later by David R. Henderson

This is an excellent article, discussing the specific misunderstandings and mistakes made by the US government in response to the 911 attack on the WTC and Pentagon.

“Freedom itself was attacked this morning by a faceless coward … and freedom will be defended.” In other words, George W. Bush thought that the reason the United States was attacked was that the attackers hated our freedom. How did he reach this conclusion? He never told us. He made his statement within hours of the attack and never gave any evidence for this view. As far as we can tell, he never questioned this view, never sought evidence that might have challenged it, and acted on the assumption that this view was correct.

Notice the importance of his assumption. If we were attacked because of our freedom, then there are only two options if you want to avoid future attacks: (1) get rid of our freedom, or (2) attack those who want to plan future attacks. But if we were attacked for some other reason, then it’s important to understand this other reason. What could another reason be?

Believe it or not, the Department of Defense, in 1997, had identified another reason that had nothing to do with “our freedom” but a lot to do with the U.S. government’s interventions abroad. The Defense Science Board’s 1997 Summer Study Task Force on DoD Responses to Transnational Threats had written, four years before the attacks:

“As part of its global power position, the United States is called upon frequently to respond to international causes and deploy forces around the world. America’s position in the world invites attack simply because of its presence. Historical data show a strong correlation between U.S. involvement in international situations and an increase in terrorist attacks against the United States.” (Washington: U.S. Department of Defense, October 1997, vol. 1, Final Report, p. 15)

Loose Change – again – 911 and American wars

If you’re tired of propaganda; tired of conspiracy theorists telling you that your media is mostly brainwashing you into the party line of big brother…

Wake up.

There is a lot of conspiracy theory which must be wrong.  It’s nuts… so you choose not to belive it.  You don’t accept things at face value.  You look for evidence to refute crazy stories.

Good.

Do so.  But do so, also, to the “official story”.  Think of the source of the offical story and think how much you really, genuinely trust it.  A shred of doubt?  Good… dig… think… persevere.

Check out LooseChange911.com and spend an hour to watch the excellent video: Loose Change 2nd Edition Recut

The stakes are very high.  Too many people died, and too much has changed in this country (and others) directly related to 911, to not know the full truth and everyone can be sure we currently do not.

If you think we already know the truth, please do any research and see how much is redacted, and withheld… from recordings to black boxes, surveilance videos, testimony, and the rubble at the scene… too many secrets.  too many truths seem like lies.

And.. if you already agree with me and are outraged…  do something.  We’re nearly at Sept. 11th, 2007, and after devastating Iraq on the pretense of “saving the world from their threat of weapons of mass destruction” which never existed… we are being warmed up for war with Iran [2].  These things are unacceptable – worse than the lies around 911.  But the events of 911 are directly related to America’s invasion of sovereign nations in the middle east; at least in the minds of the American people.  If they should be related – these countries had nothing to do with 911, except perhaps Afghanistan… and that’s still a perhaps.

In my opinion it all comes down to what story you believe.  Americans don’t talk about politics much, and we certainly don’t talk about taboo subjects like the 911 attack being an inside job…  At least we don’t seem to much.

Well – I’m asking you to do so.  Talk to someone at work or school.  Ask.  Tell.  Talk.  Remind people that it’s important and there are no reasons NOT to talk about it.  It’s a hell of a lot better than talking about whatever some actress did or didn’t do, or what your favorite sports teams are scoring.  Several thousand people died at 911, and over 70,000 have died in the war in Iraq we couldn’t have started without the motivation of 911. (3700+ US Military)  With more and more war in our future… more specifically in the short future of the people who will die at our hands… we must understand what we are fighting for… what we are going into the most significant debt of all time for.

The tragedy of 911 gave the current regime the political power to do these things…  perhaps, if we could prove 911 didn’t happen the way they are telling us it did; it could be their undoing.

Phase III of Bush’s War

Great article on Bush’s current strength and resolve to bring war to Iran and again devastate a sovereign nation.

Hearken to the astonishing rhetoric Bush used at the American Legion Convention in Las Vegas against Tehran:

“Iran … is the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism. … Iran funds terrorist groups like Hamas and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, which murder the innocent and target Israel. … Iran is sending arms to the Taliban. … Iran has arrested visiting American scholars who have committed no crimes. … Iran’s active pursuit of technology that could lead to nuclear weapons threatens to put a region already known for instability and violence under the shadow of a nuclear holocaust.

“Iran’s actions threaten the security of nations everywhere. … We will confront this danger before it is too late.”
