  • Izakayas = establishments with red lanterns, inscribed with Japanese characters, hanging outside. These places are known in Japan as izakaya, and are where workers of all kinds and students gather after the day is done to cement relationships, drown their sorrows, and of course have some fun. They are traditional Japanese bar/restaurants whose wooden and tatami -clad interiors have been offering great value alcohol and food for generations. [1]
