There is truth to that statement... but there are better things to do with my time... especially since there are time when the bots really get going when I had hundreds of spam comments to remove, and 1 or 2 interspersed "valid" comments to not delete... not that it's the end of the world, but it should not be mandatory effort - and shouldn't have to be done daily. (all, in my opinion) Since there are good tools to reduce the amount of spam with minimal inconvenience to the commentors... i use it.

The best way to stop spam would be to spend some time in moderating the comments persoanlly rather than relying on any captchas. You can go to the other extreme of not allowing anyone to comment - but then the whole essence of sharing information is lost. At least Yahoo and MSN rewards the commentators with relevant backlinks, so that is a reward which many spammers like to go for.

Well, I was still getting spam comments (maybe it's a more advanced bot commenting)... so I have implemented wp-gatekeeper to put in a random simple verification question, which will be required to post... a slightly less sophisiticated and modular approach, but should be more effective... we will soon see.

yo dude.. here's a test for your comments.

your "no comments" link is what has to be used to post a comment.. it should probably say something to the effect of "post a comment"

does that make sense?
